advertising literature

I wanted to dedicate this particular post to the great literature out there on advertising, marketing, planning and everything else in between. Feel free to add or advice on any other that aren’t on here.

Latest books I have been reading:
“Living on Thin Air” by Charles Leadbeater This is a great book about ideas, services and businesses. The brilliant differences in value of tangible and intangible ideas. He is an amazingly clever writer, and what he wrote in this book about economy of business is true for the 20th century. How did we come to here now where emotion and ideas overrule ration and source?

“The Logic of Life” by Tim Harford I have just started reading this book, so I will wait until the last page before I write my own point of view. But if you are interested in how the world works, this book is relevant.

“The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell I am sure most of you have heard of this book. “Malcolm Gladwell explains and anaylses the ‘tipping point’, that magic moment when ideas, trends and social behaviours cross a threshold, tip and spread like wildfire

Ogilvy on Advertising Everything you need to know about advertising!

“How to Plan Advertising” by Alan Cooper Want to be a planner? This book is perfect.

Truth, Lies & Advertising” by Jon Steel Who doesn’t love Steel.

Other brain ticklers: (Brain tickler: adj. things that makes your brain swirl with laughter or amusement)

“Running with Scissors” by Augusten Burroughs I love Burroughs’ books, and this one never fails to make me laugh. Augusten also used to work in advertising, so there is kind of a link if you are looking for one!

“The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy” by Tim Burton Light hearted brain tickler!

“It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be” by Paul Arden Great motivational book. I refer back to it over and over again.

“Inside Steve’s Brain” by Leander Kahney
I have just started this one as well, it is a book about the amazing Steve Jobs. He is inspirational. If you haven’t seen his amazing speech on Youtube, watch it now! see below:
